Solution

Visual inspection with a camera

A simple camera and a few dozen example pictures are enough for a first inspection station. The model learns from examples to tell good parts from faulty ones.

The problem

At goods receipt, on the line or at dispatch, inspection is done by eye. That is tiring, and after the two-hundredth box a scratch, a missing part or a wrong label slips through. The customer is the one who notices.

The solution

An inspection station that learns from examples:

  • Camera: a simple camera above the inspection area, on the line or at the packing table
  • Teaching: you show good parts and typical faults; a few dozen pictures are enough to start
  • Inspecting: every part is classified; uncertain cases go to a person
  • Retraining: if a new fault appears, a few pictures are added, without new programming
  • Overview: how many parts with which fault, per day and delivery

The demo application shows how the teaching works: you teach the model to tell two kinds of parts apart with your own camera, or practise on a virtual conveyor. The pictures stay on your device.

What it costs

In the free initial assessment I first find out whether your faults show up in a picture. If it pays off, a trial run at one inspection station at a fixed price follows, then the expansion in stages. More under AI with approval.

Frequent questions

How many pictures does it need?

For a first try a few dozen pictures per class are often enough, meaning good parts and typical faults. For continuous operation we collect more, also straight from the running station.

Does someone have to program rules?

No. The model learns from examples. When a new fault appears, you show it a few pictures of it instead of having a rule written.

What about employees who are in the picture?

The model recognises parts, not people and not faces. The camera is pointed so that it only sees the inspection area, and pictures are only stored if you want that for retraining.

Does the camera decide on its own?

You decide that. Usually it sorts out uncertain parts and a person takes another look at them.
